Healthier Home and Planet!

Written by craig coffman

Last month I decided to go ahead and buy a few items I have been wanting and just never obtained. While the cost was low (all relative, I know), there just never seemed to be a good time in the budget to check these off. Finally, I decided there would never be a good time and took the plunge. Perhaps and apt word to use.

Salmon Recipes: Cracked Pepper and Olive Oil

Written by craig coffman

Since mentioning the ease of cooking salmon, I thought I would post some easy recipes for you to try at your own home. For this one, it is really simple. All you need is your piece of salmon in a foil tray. Drizzle the olive oil across the top. I have found that the less you put on, the more it keeps the fish tender. Cover the length of the fish with the desired amount of pepper. I toss some carrots in the foil tray as well. Cook at 375 in the oven, or on your grill at Medium with the center burner off, for roughly 17 minutes per inch thick in the oven, 12 minutes per inch on grill. PLEASE CHECK OFTEN AS THESE TIMES MAY VARY.

Easy Salmon Cooking

Written by craig coffman

I love salmon. I have been told the easiest method for preparing it I have ever heard, and thought I would pass it along. Wrap it in tin foil packet, add a little olive oil and whatever seasoning, toss it on the grill or in the oven. No need for that weird fish holder for the grill. It keeps the salmon very moist and the flavor is just soaked right up. For me, I found 12 minutes / inch on the grill at 425 degrees without center burner. For the oven, 375 degree for roughly 17 minutes / inch. Be sure to check frequently until you have done this a few times as cooking times may vary. Happy eating!

NaNoWriMo 2007 Winner

Written by craig coffman

nanowrimo.jpgFor those of you who know what this is relating to, you probably understand my excitement about it. NaNoWriMo = 50K words in 30 days. No small feat. I finished mine in 24 days, and then thankfully let it lie. While it is in no way a novel, it is a great start and a wonderful exercise. While not for everyone, perhaps myself included, this is a great way to get out there and just write. I learned that I actually could write that many words about a single story. Now I am excited to go back and shape it up.

The Amazing Art of Angela Petsis

Written by craig coffman

petsis.jpgWhile the art world has seen an emergence of collage art recently, not everyone can do this well. In fact, many people cannot do this well. While I want to encourage everyone to make art, regardless of my thoughts, certain people definitely need to keep creating. Angela Petsis is one of them.

Stop Junk Mail and Save the World

Written by craig coffman

I thought it was something about saving a cheerleader to save the world. Apparently I got that one wrong. Junk mail catalogues are one really big problem to the environment. Not to mention you mailbox. Fortunately, you can do a few things to help curb this problem. You just need to write to DMA and get off of those darn lists. I wish it lasted forever, but it only lasts five years. Still, imagine a greatly reduced number of junk mail everyday. Now think about what that could do for the planet...

Joel Peter Witkin: Photographer

Written by craig coffman

witkin.jpgFor those of you unfamiliar with Joel Peter Witkin, you should be forewarned that his images are not for the faint of heart. That said, I believe everyone should check out his work, just know what you are in for. His photographs pull you and and lead you down a road. A dark, twisted path to the personal carnival of his imagination. A place where modern day ’Freaks of Nature‘ are adored and embraced like Botticelli's Birth of Venus or Michelangelo's David. A surreal world knocking so loudly on reality that the walls come down and lines blur to obliteration. Disturbing. Unsettling. Captivating.

Ashley Wood: Artist

wood.jpgAshley Wood. Ahhhh. His artwork is sublimely beautiful. The rich, textured backgrounds and stark color palette. I adore his over-emphasized limbs. His army of long, lean, and lanky (alliteration) characters are just elegant and mesmerizing. I recently looked back through my copies of Popbot and lazily drifted to the realm of robots and dangerous females. Not to mention some surreal 'stories' and a decent showing of cats. He has a definite style comprised of traditional painting techniques, coupled with digital photography and graphic software. The synthesis of these approaches is nothing short of breath taking.

Exit Strategy

Written by craig coffman

Hierarchy. This might be the downfall of our civilization. Everyone striving to be one notch higher in the pecking order. We struggle. We strive. We lie. We back-stab. We sabotage. We undermine. We screw up, over, and around. All this to get to some ephemeral goal of a higher status. Higher status equals more say. More say equals more power. More power equals more underlings, which increases your status, say and power. Once you play into the hand of this house of mirrors, there is no easy escape.
