Leupold

Written by craig coffman

LeupoldI was asked to help out with the building of a Flash section to be included in the Leupold site. They required a fron page hero which took the visitor into a specific section. Once in the section, there needed to be a tabbed scrolling navigation. As well, each piece required a check to see if it was loading a Flash file, Flash video or a jpg. Then respond by writting the appropriate code. A custom skin for the video player, as well as actionscript controlled controls were thrown in to the mix.

All told, it is a very striking user experience.

Role: Actionscript.

YWCA

Written by craig coffman

YWCAThe National YWCA needed to update their image, and their usability. With only a branding guide to go from, this site was designed and built exceeding their expectations. The main challenge was grouping their volumous data into easily understood categories. Then make it simple to find and access.

Mission accomplished.

Role: Concept, oversee design, code, style.

Free Desktop Wallpaper: JB Method

JB Method

In messing around with Photoshop, I asked a friend of mine Jorge Bach how he achieved an effect I quite liked. He gave me very quick instructions and I followed them. While the result was not how I imagined it, I thought it turned out well.

Earls

Written by craig coffman

Earls (Canada)Earls (Canada) needed some Flash work for their hybrid-site redesign. The wanted banners with Flash Video to play, but also needed to have the Flash Video in the sidebar be available should the visitor decide to view it. I created a way, using javascript, to allow one Flash piece to talk to another and pausing the playing video in the process.

Role: Flash video integration, actionscript, style.

Bellwether Boutique

My friend Jessica opened Bellwether Boutique here in Omaha. It fetures vintage clothes, furniture, hand-made articles, and local art. A blend of old and new, bound primarily by the keen her keen sense of fashion and style. I hope it proves to be a smashing success.

She contacted me to do some design for the store, but they ended up not using it. Still, I quite like the look / feel I developed and decided to show them here. Please click on a thumbnail to launch the gallery.

Abstract Desktop

I have been wanting to learn more about Photoshop, and figured without a project I would never make the time. My solution? Create desktops for you to use and learn in the process. These are based off of tutorials I have found, and then changed to create something of my own. I hope you find them interesting.

CSS Table Styles

Written by craig coffman

Ever find yourself in the situation where you need to use a table? You ought to, because there really is a time and a place for them in modern html. However, if you (like me) have all but tossed the cursed memory of tables out of your memory and are fully embracing the css / xhtml paradigm, some style guidance is appreciated. That’s right, I just said style.

Computer Backgrounds at any DPI!

Written by craig coffman

Perhaps I am the only one not knowing this, but I was amazed to learn that you can set a graphic to whatever DPI you want and it still displays sharp on your monitor. That is, you can make an image 1600X1200 with a DPI of 2 (yes, 2!) and set it to your desktop background. It displays beautifully. This, in my opinion, is a huge deal to anyone wishing to make images for other people, or even yourself. Apparently it does not decrease the file size (for whatever reason), but you can make images massive without having a giant 300DPI image as your source.

Octoberland Fire style for NetNewsWire

Written by craig coffman

Response was very positive for my first NetNewsWire style that I thought I would try another. This one is more of an Autumnal feel, and includes better handling for the widescreen view. You can download octoberlandFire for NetNewsWire from this link. As always, please tell me what you think. Hopefully soon I will get the image part of this site working and can post images of the style.
